Dynamic Discussion Texts in Year 6!
This week in English, Year 6 have been thinking about whether or not Zoe - the lead character in our book, Floodland - should stay on Eels Island, or leave for a better life. They discussed in groups reasons for her to stay and reasons for her to go; it was brilliant to see the children debating respectfully and supporting all of their ideas with evidence from the text.
"There is no way stay on this island; she finally knows where her boat is, so she should leave immediately!"
"She could overthrow Dooby's tyrannical leadership and become the new leader of Eels Island - that is a pretty good reason to stay!"
After thinking carefully about their arguments, the children worked hard to write their discussion text. It was brilliant to see the children editing and evaluating their work to include phrases of debate and emphatic language. Their published pieces of work were outstanding; well done, Year 6!
