St Pius X Catholic Primary School

 Thursday 18th June 2026 Cakes, Coffee and Celebrating!! It is fast becoming a tradition!  Our 3rd Year of The Mini Vinnies holding a Cream Tea at  St Pius X Primary School and invititing some of our older members of our local community.  We had many of our regulars along with some new visitors.   It was a fab afternoon as always.  Plenty of cakes and coffe and lots of chats.  Year 6 then entertained everyone with a preview of all their Production Songs from their Leaver's Production, The Wizard Of Oz. They were amazing!  All in all it was another fantastic afternoon with our friends from the Community we thank you so much for coming and sharing this wonderful event and we look forward to seeing everyone again soon.  On Tuesday, Reception Class took their first school trip to Maldon, where they could link this to their learning of the seaside. The children had to build their own sandcastles and then complete observational drawings of the boats in the water. They all loved playing in the sand and worked hard to complete their drawings, really focusing on the details they could see on the boats.  We also got to see people working on their boats and watched a sail boat travel across the water. The children spotted speed boats and sail boats.  We got to eat our lunch in the park and play on the all the play equipment, which was so much fun that even the adults had to take a turn! The children all behaved incredibly throughout the day and loved being on the coach, even if it did send a few of them to sleep.  A massive thank you to all the parents who were able to support on the trip, it really does make a big difference!   

 Due to all the rain, the weeds and grass in our outdoor area were getting uncontrollable! We decided to get our scissors out and trim all the weeds and grass.  The children all worked together cutting and pulling the weeds out. We added them to our mud kitchen boxes for us to use throughout the day in our cooking.  Not only has this helped to keep our outdoor area tidy, but the children were building their fine motor skills when using the scissors, and building their bigger muscles when pulling the weeds out.  Great work Reception!  On Friday 22nd May 2026, we The Mini Vinnies celebrated World Cultural Diversity Day.  We asked children and parents if they would like to present some interesting facts about their culture and share any traditions,  photos, powerpoints and cultural clothes at our assembly that we held.  We had a lovely time, because everyone got the chance to learn more about so many different cultures.  We could not have done this without the help of some our parents who so kindly gave up their time to come and share their culture with the school in the assembly, Mrs Kenning - Spain, Mrs Prasanna - India, Mrs Stepegeu - Romania and Mrs Tumber who went over and above by arranging for these fabulous parents to come to the school and they put together a powerpoint to present.  Mrs Tumber also brought in clothes for the younger children to try on and musical instruments to play.  We all learnt so much about different cultures, traditions, food and dancing.  Miss Lowry along with the Mini Vinnies organised an amazing cultural day for the school. We learnt about the different traditions, clothes, food and dance of countries all around the world. We were very lucky to be able to hear from parents in our class about their home countries and traditions.  The children then learnt different dances from each country and got to practise around the hall, having so much fun!  Finally, the children were invited to explore different clothes and musical instruments from the countries. They loved dressing up and getting the opportunity to explore the different cultures.  Thank you to Miss Lowry, Mini Vinnies and the parents involved who made the workshop a great success. 

On Friday 8 th  May the children celebrated Sir David Attenborough's 100 th  birthday! As one of our role models for our school value of service, we marked this occasion by wearing something green to school.  It was lovely to see so many children and staff take part. Eden Oasis led workshops for each year group and showed the children a variety of animals, teaching them some interesting facts about their habitats. Animals included a huge snake, a tiny armadillo and a tortoise! This was definitely the highlight of the day, as lots of excitement could be heard from the Hall! Each class also completed their own wildlife themed activity, from drawing portraits of Sir David to paint dye butterflies, scavenger hunts, habitat art and fact files. Year 5 enjoyed celebrating David Attenborough on Friday - our school representative for the value of 'Service'.  Mrs Wiseman had planned a fun filled day for the whole school involving an animal workshop which they loved!  Along side this, each class completed their own pieces of work to commemorate his 100th birthday. Year 5 chose to complete some pencil sketches using shading to complete a half portrait.  The results were absolutely outstanding! The children took time to think carefully about the proportions of the face, to blend carefully and to choose different stengths of pencil to create their desired effect.   🌿 Celebrating David Attenborough in Year 1 (Marking his 100th Birthday!) Over the past two weeks, Year 1 have been completely immersed in the wonderful world of Sir David Attenborough as part of our English learning. Using Little People, Big Dreams: David Attenborough as our focus text, the children have explored his life, his love of nature, and the incredible work he has done to protect our planet. 🌏 COMPETITION 🌏  Wow - we certainly have some creative pupils here at St Pius! We wanted to celebrate Earth Day , thinking about why our world is precious and how we can be responsible citizens by looking after our environment.  We have been overwhelmed with entries and the quality, effort and important messages that have been included is just amazing. Thank you to everyone who participated in the competition.  It has been incredibly difficult to choose a winner from KS1 and KS2! Every entry has been awarded 20 house points and all posters are proudly displayed around the school. KS1 Winner - Joelle!   Her 3D Earth was decorated with beautiful watercolours and some reminders on how to look after the Earth! KS2 Winner - Austin!   His 3D save the earth poster had lots of important messages!  

 It's been so much fun exploring the forest school area as part of our learning!  The children are loving all of the activities provided by our forest school leaders: Karen and Caroline.  There has been lots of bug hunting, mud kitchen cooking and tree climbing.   Enrichment Day at Chelmsford County High School for Girls Today some of our students from Year 4 and Year 5 were able to experience an exciting day of creative discovery attending an, 'Exploring Languages.' Day at Chelmsford County High School. This enrichment day allowed the girls to participate in a range of challenging and creative activities. This included, Spanish, French and Latin. In Spanish the girls learnt key facts about Columbia, they learnt and used vocabulary for parts of the house in Spanish, and they learnt and used colours in Spanish.  They then transferred all these skills  to making a paper house.  In French, the children learnt key facts about France and the main cities and landmarks, they learnt and  used vocabulary for different foods and drinks and then made their own menus which was very  exciting.  A Wonderful Time at The Wisdom Club! What a wonderful visit The Mini Vinnies had this morning at The Wisdom Club, this is a regular event now and everyone has the most enjoyable time.  The younger members of the community meeting with the older members of the community.  There was a lot of singing with the children singing some of their favourite songs, and many members of The Wisdom Club joined in with the Abba songs!! The children shared their work with their friends at the club, they were particularly excited to show their IPC work of WW2.  Cakes and drinks were served which always goes down well. Olive and Agnes the Year 4 Mini Vinnies invited the members of The Wisdom Club to a special performance of their Easter Production next week, so we are looking forward to seeing some there.   In our RE lesson this week, we explored the meaning of prayer during Lent and how it helps us grow closer to Jesus Christ. We began by looking at a teaching from the Gospel of Matthew 6:6, where Jesus encourages believers to find a quiet place to pray. This helped pupils think about why Christians value personal prayer and reflection. To bring this learning to life, pupils designed their own prayer gardens. Each garden represented a journey through Lent and included meaningful features such as: Quiet benches to represent silent reflection and listening to God Water fountains to symbolise how prayer helps faith grow, like water helps plants grow Flower paths showing spiritual growth and hope Crosses or candle areas to remind Christians of Jesus’ love and sacrifice as they prepare for Easter The activity allowed pupils to think carefully about symbolism while expressing their ideas creatively. Year 2 Litter Picking! To mark the end of our IPC topic 'Live and Let Live!' Year 2 decided to help out around our local area. They have been learning about habitats and life cycles in science, and have researched endangered animals as part of a homework project. They have been reminded that our world is precious and that we all have a responsibility, as God's stewards, to take care of the earth. We can do this is big ways but also small acts of service that can make a big difference! They worked fantastically in pairs, sharing equipment and helping each other to collect rubbish. They were astonished at the amount of litter they found along the pavements, in bushes and around the local park! Here's a selection of projects... lots of information about pandas, tigers, elephants! Well done Year 2 - some amazing homework projects and excellent citizens helping out our local community.

What are the Mini Vinnies involved with at the moment? The Mini Vinnies are very busy. We have weekly meetings and right now we are beginning St. Vincent De Paul's Lenten Campaign. This year’s  SVP Heart to Heart Lent campaign   focuses on   loneliness , a hidden issue that affects people of all ages, even in busy schools and communities. The message is simple and powerful:   reach out and have a conversation . Inspired by  St Pier Giorgio Frassati , an SVP member who believed in friendship and lifting others  verso l’alto  (“to the heights”), the campaign shows how caring for others helps us grow too. The Heart to Heart campaign will be a 5 week Lenten journey.  Each week we will explore stories of Jesus listening to and caring for those who felt lonely or forgotten.  We will be doing activities that build towards a final challenge where we have a 'heart to heart' conversation with someone in our community.  We have started with Week 1 ...
