We joined two other schools to perform Eddie the Penguin Saves the World  to a packed house! This was a fabulous play all about environmental issues from recycling to saving water and energy.

Fantastic Fairy Tales in Year 2!

Image
Our English unit has been all about... Fairy Tales ! We were already familiar with many fairy tales so we could identify the key features and think about the vocabulary, characters and story structure that makes them recognisable. We shared lots of ideas including story openers, powerful adjectives to describe and a variety of punctuation. We shared lots of imaginative ideas, planned our stories, wrote and edited them and finally wrote them up into a proper book! We have really enjoyed being authors! We swapped stories with our partner and gave them feedback. You can read some excerpts from our stories below.... Olive: Once upon a time in a gloomy sea there was a magical mirror, a stunning mermaid, an evil pirate and a mad, magical wizard. Harley: Then he saw a dead end and an old, rickety cafe. Heavenly: Did you ever hear the story of the royal move?......They packed their bags quickly before the evil fairy burnt their house down! Florence: 'The princess was beautiful. The prince

Easter Art in Year 2

Image
To celebrate Easter and to remember the important sacrifice Jesus made for us, we used sponges and mixed our chosen colours to create a speckled background. Then we cut a hill shape from coloured paper and a cross from black card. We used glue dots to fix each part together. We enjoyed being creative and remembering the Easter story. Elements of art: colour mixing, texture.

Island Life exit point in Year 3.

Image
Year 3 have loved learning all about the human and physical features of our world in our topic 'Island Life'. As Geographers we have been working on our mapping skills and locational and place knowledge (specifically Europe!) For our exit point we used our knowledge about volcanoes to build and label them... before watching them erupt! It's a shame that Island Life is ending, I've really loved learning Geography Emil It was so much fun watching the volcanoes erupt! Mia

Netball Team Win!

Image
The netball team had their second game just a few days after their debut. They were up against Great Leighs Primary school which was set to be a close competition.  The match was an even contest and the first quarter ended 0-0. The squad soon got into their stride and had a long spell of possession and made some beautiful passes between them.  The opponents had a strong defence so scoring was difficult at times.  As the match continued, the first goal was scored by Jessica giving them the confidence and belief that they could win by more. The third quarter saw Julia shoot and score a fabulous goal and during the remaining few minutes, Estera made a glorious shot from around 8 feet from the post, securing the win. The final whistle was blown and the game ended 3-0 to St Pius! The squad played a wonderful game, moving into spaces,  passing and working together to get the ball into the net. Here's to the next match! Well done everyone. "I really enjoyed it " Willow  " W

Year 2 Computing - Data Collection

Image
Year 2 have been applying their mathematical understanding of data collection through the use of an online pictogram website  .  We revised how to use tally charts and then did our own survey, recalling previous data collection during our From A-B transport topic.  Then we used the pictogram website to organise the results. We also answered various questions using mathematical vocabulary such as:  'What is the total?' 'How many more people like strawberries than pears?' 'Which animal does the farmer have the least of?' As well as practising our computing skills we also had to use reciprocity skills to collect and record our data. "It's easy to see which one is the most popular!" Henry "I can count those easily because it's an array," Alister "You cross the tally when it gets to 5 because it makes it easier to count - you can count in 5s," Heavenly

Year 5/6 new Netball Team

Image
The newly formed netball team competed in their first netball match this week against St Anne's primary school. They worked extremely well as a team and showed great resilience and effort throughout the entire match. Competing in their first game and playing at another school was always going to be a challenge, however they fought until the end and we are incredibly proud of all of them. They have some more matches lined up and they will continue to train and work on their skills and game play. "I really enjoyed it and it was good to play against other people" Jessica  "It was really fun" Estera

Year 3 and 4, Easter Production

Image
Year 4 and 3 took part in the easter production this year. Year 3 sang beautifully and enthusiastically in the chorus while Year 4 took the lead in acting. Both the years helped create the props which we used. We had some stunning acting, some bold solos and powerful singing. It was a roaring success. Well done to all the students. Also, congratulations to Emma for designing the winning Easter Program entry. Thank you to all who came to see the play.

Environment-Friendly Exit Point for Year 2!

Image
We have learnt about how important our planet is and how to look after our environment! This is a great example of our school value of 'service' as we actively take responsibility for looking after our world for future generations to enjoy. It also ties in with our learning about habitats, endangered animals and the geography of our local area. After making posters with important reminders, we decided to put this into action and we went litter-picking around the local area for our Exit Point! Posters by Agnes, Joshua and Olive:
