We are delighted to congratulate our PE Lead, Mr Cook , on receiving the Kim Yates Award from the Chelmsford Sports Partnership . This prestigious award recognises an outstanding contribution to sport and Physical Education, and is a wonderful reflection of Mr Cook's dedication and commitment to our school community. Since taking on the role of PE Lead, Mr Cook has worked tirelessly to develop and expand the sporting opportunities available to our pupils. Through his enthusiasm, hard work and passion for sport, he has encouraged more children than ever to get involved, try new activities and represent the school with pride. His commitment has helped to create a positive sporting culture where every pupil is encouraged to achieve their personal best.  After winning their league to qualify for the Small Schools Final, the St Pius X football team took on Danbury Park in a hard-fought match on a very hot day. The teams were evenly matched in the first half, going into the break level at 1-1, but despite a tremendous effort, St Pius X were eventually beaten 6-2 by a very strong opposition. Goalkeeper Joe made a number of outstanding saves to keep the team in the game, and every player showed fantastic determination, teamwork and resilience throughout. Finishing as runners-up and receiving silver medals is a wonderful achievement, and everyone at St Pius X is incredibly proud of the team's success.

 Congratulations to our St Pius X tennis teams on an excellent series of performances this term! The team were crowned champions at a Tennis Tournament after competing against other schools within our Trust. They then went on to achieve an impressive third-place finish at a larger tournament held at Oaklands Park, competing against schools from across the region. The pupils showed great teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout both competitions, making the whole school proud. Well done to everyone involved on these fantastic achievements!

Thank you to all the family and friends who attended our annual Exhibition Afternoon. The children have all been working hard to create 'sculptures' to exhibit. There was an amazing variety - paper sculptures, clay, recycled materials, wire figures..... what a wonderful example of the creativity of our students! Thank you for also visiting your child's classroom to see some of the brilliant work they have been doing in class. We appreciate your ongoing support and the children love to share their achievements with you!

 The St Pius X Boys Football Team produced a fantastic performance to defeat St Anne's 6–1 and secure their place in a third Small Schools Final in a row. The boys were in excellent form from the first whistle, playing with confidence, energy and teamwork throughout the match. Spectators were treated to some outstanding goals, with Dom, Jack and Henry all finding the net with superb finishes that helped St Pius X take control of the game. Adding to the occasion, the team proudly wore their brand-new football kits for the first time. The kits were made possible thanks to the hard work and determination of the boys, who raised funds through a series of cake sales organised with the support of Mr Vickers. It was wonderful to see their efforts rewarded as they celebrated such an impressive victory in their new colours.  On Friday, the Year 4s had a fantastic day in London. We caught from the train from Chelmsford to Liverpool street and then went to Tower Bridge via the Tower of London. The Children were amazed to see both these sites and really enjoyed crossing the bridge and getting to look over the edge. We stopped next to the bridge for a snack and a break.  We then walked past some of London's famous sites to the Globe theatre. When we got there, we had a fantastic tour from our guide. She took us through the theatre and explain the history of the place and how played worked. We even got to see some of the actors warming up for their afternoon performance.  We then went across the street to their practice studios to do an acting workshop based on the characters of Macbeth. We went through different moments and poses for the different character. Our guide then took us through some games to build up to acting out the confrontation between Lady Macbeth and Macbeth.  After sitting...

  Year 3 have been thoroughly enjoying reading the wonderful book The Butterfly Lion by Michael Morpurgo . Throughout our lessons, the children have been developing their VIPERS reading skills, helping them to become thoughtful and confident readers. Recently, the class focused particularly on the “Predict” skill. The children used clues from the text, character actions and illustrations to make sensible predictions about what might happen next in the story. To make this even more exciting, we introduced our very own “Predict-o-meter”! The children loved using the Predict-o-meter to show how confident they were in their predictions and to explain the evidence behind their ideas. On Friday 8 th  May the children celebrated Sir David Attenborough's 100 th  birthday! As one of our role models for our school value of service, we marked this occasion by wearing something green to school.  It was lovely to see so many children and staff take part. Eden Oasis led workshops for each year group and showed the children a variety of animals, teaching them some interesting facts about their habitats. Animals included a huge snake, a tiny armadillo and a tortoise! This was definitely the highlight of the day, as lots of excitement could be heard from the Hall! Each class also completed their own wildlife themed activity, from drawing portraits of Sir David to paint dye butterflies, scavenger hunts, habitat art and fact files. Year 6 are designing their own wildlife website which is fantastic! Even the music during lunchtimes 'Fun Friday' on the playground were all animal themed!  Today we replicated the process of digestion. First we put food in the mouth (food into a zip lock bag), we broke it into pieces like our teeth break down food we eat. Then it was on to the stomach. The food we broken down by acid (water) and mushed up. It then went into the intestines (the tights). Nutrients and water was absorbed out of the intestines (through the tights and onto a paper towel). Then the end. What was left came out...the other side. 

🌏 COMPETITION 🌏  Wow - we certainly have some creative pupils here at St Pius! We wanted to celebrate Earth Day , thinking about why our world is precious and how we can be responsible citizens by looking after our environment.  We have been overwhelmed with entries and the quality, effort and important messages that have been included is just amazing. Thank you to everyone who participated in the competition.  It has been incredibly difficult to choose a winner from KS1 and KS2! Every entry has been awarded 20 house points and all posters are proudly displayed around the school. KS1 Winner - Joelle!   Her 3D Earth was decorated with beautiful watercolours and some reminders on how to look after the Earth! KS2 Winner - Austin!   His 3D save the earth poster had lots of important messages!  

 As part of our human body unit in IPC, we've been looking at teeth. We found out about all the different types of teeth we have, what their characteristics are and what their purpose is. We looked at herbivores, carnivores and omnivores, examining their teeth and seeing which teeth are liked to which animals.  However, we also need to know how to keep our teeth healthy. So we've created an experiment to find out which liquids have the biggest impact on teeth. We've put eggshells in bags and put different liquids each bag (water, milk, cola, orange juice and vinegar) and observe them over the next couple of weeks. Many in the class think that cola or vinegar will have the biggest impact. Let's wait and see...

 Our Year 4-6 girls football team put in a fantastic performance this week against a very strong Great Leighs side. Although the final score ended 6-1, the scoreline did not reflect the effort, determination and teamwork shown by the girls throughout the match. From the very first whistle, the team defended resiliently and never stopped working hard for one another. Great Leighs proved to be an excellent team, moving the ball well and taking their chances, but our players continued to battle right until the end with great attitude and commitment. There were some brilliant moments of defending, strong tackles and excellent teamwork on display, with the girls encouraging each other throughout the game. Their resilience and positive spirit were outstanding and they should all be incredibly proud of themselves.  We are incredibly proud to celebrate the fantastic achievement of four of our Year 4 pupils, who recently competed in a Mini Wimbledon tennis tournament against 13 local schools. Showing determination, teamwork and impressive skill, our team played brilliantly throughout the competition, winning match after match to secure an outstanding 2nd place finish. Finishing second out of 13 schools is a remarkable accomplishment in itself but the excitement doesn’t stop there! By achieving this result, the team has now qualified for the finals, where they will have the opportunity to compete at an even higher level. Congratulations Florence, Henry, Lexi and Joshua!  

 This term in Religious Education, our Year 3 class explored the powerful and thought-provoking story of the Road to Emmaus. Found in the Gospel of Luke, this story tells of two disciples walking to a village called Emmaus after the events of Easter, feeling confused and saddened. Along the way, they meet a stranger who walks and talks with them, only later do they realise that it is Jesus himself. To bring this story to life, the children took part in a creative and collaborative activity, recreating the journey in small groups. This hands-on approach allowed pupils not only to understand the sequence of events but also to reflect more deeply on the emotions and meaning behind the story.  This week, all of Year 3 and 4's hard work has paid off for the Easter production: Easter Praise. Both classes did an amazing job and are very proud of themselves. Year 3 sang beautifully while the Year 4s dazzled us with some brilliant acting. Harley took the lead as Jesus, while Olive (Judas) and Florence (Peter) delighted the audience with a solo each. The play drew to a close with a duet from Tolu and Michelle (the Marys). All of their hard work came together in the highly enjoyable play.  On Monday, they performed in front of the school for their dress rehearsal.  Guests for our local community. For the first time, on Wednesday, we opened the performance to the local community. We were joined by Mr Coen (the Head Teacher of Saint John Payne), Some representatives of the Knight of Saint Columba, the SVP, the Wisdom Club and others in the local churches.
