Reception and Year 1 visit the Storytelling centre

Image
On Wednesday, Reception and Year 1 visited the Story Telling Centre in Stratford.  We had a great time together and learned a lot. The children sat brilliantly on the coach and were very well behaved.  When we got there we enjoyed a play in the garden playground. The children enjoyed climbing and exploring the sensory elements in the garden.  After this we had a storytelling workshop. The children enjoyed listening to the stories as the actresses played roles and created story scenes. They were then encouraged to explore the centre and come up with their own characters and story ideas. The children came up with ideas for a story which they can write back in school.  'We went to London, I went on a bus and I got to sit right at the top. It was so much fun!' - Serah Year 1 'When I went on the trip I had fun. The ladies helped us learn how to tell stories. We had lots of ideas.'- Eva Reception  The children were well behaved and listened well! We were very proud of them.

Year 2 - Endangered Animals Homework Projects

Image
To enhance and encourage independent learning, Year 2 were tasked with researching an endangered animal, creating a homework project and presenting their findings to the class. As they have been learning about habitats, life-cycles and food-chains in IPC, they had some prior knowledge to get them started. It has been fantastic to see the children get excited about their learning, particularly by taking ownership of their project - they could choose which animal to research and how to present their project!  It has also been a great opportunity to practise skills such as speaking and listening, researching using a variety of sources, designing and creating for a purpose and choosing materials and tools.  The projects have included poems, clay models, sewing, posters, shoebox models and many more! Well done Year 2!

Year 6, DT Project Anderson Shelters

Image
The project involved utilising various materials and techniques, primarily focusing on woodcutting, to create a functional and historically accurate Anderson Shelter. The primary objective of the project was to design and build an Anderson shelter, replicating the structures used during World War II to protect civilians from air raids. This involved understanding the historical context, dimensions, and construction techniques of the original shelters while incorporating modern materials and safety considerations. The design process began with extensive research into Anderson shelters, including their dimensions, materials, and construction methods. Using this information, several design iterations were developed. A variety of materials were utilised in the construction of the shelter, with a particular emphasis on wood. High-quality timber was selected for its durability and ease of manipulation. The cutting of wood was a crucial aspect of the project, requiring precision and attenti

Year 4 Swimming

Image
Year 4 have been having weekly swimming lessons since September and we've been working so hard to improve our skills. We've had so many achievements over the last six months, from being able to get into the pool confidently to submerging themselves under the water to being able to jump in (sometimes in the deep end!) to being able to swim 25 m on their back and front.
