E-Safety Resources

Image
In our ever-evolving digital landscape, the internet has become an integral part of our daily lives. From socialising to learning, the online world offers countless opportunities for exploration and connection. However, with this vast connectivity comes the responsibility of ensuring internet safety, particularly for our children.  Initiating a conversation about internet safety with your children might seem challenging, but it's a crucial step in fostering a healthy relationship with technology. Start by creating an open and non-judgmental space where your kids feel comfortable discussing their online experiences.  For more information about resources please click here .

Fantastic Gymnastics in Reception

Image
In PE this term, we are focusing on gymnastic skills. The children have been developing their balancing, jumping and rolling.  We have learned how to complete a pencil roll and egg roll, leap and a standing jump. We have balanced along a beam and a bench.  Each week we complete a circuit of activities and add a new skill each week. This gives the children opportunities to practise and develop their skills each week and build on their learning from the week before.

Meteorologists in Reception

Image
We are learning all about the weather this week in Reception!  We have looked at the user of symbols instead of words and identified what some weather symbols mean.  We also enjoyed keeping a weather diary each day. We went outside and recorded the weather at the same time of day each day. We have recorded a mix of weather from sunny spells to rain downpours. The children used the correct symbols to display these on their weather diary.  We have also conducted an experiment which has lasted the whole week! The children have used their observing over time skills in science to observe how much rain has fallen this week.  On Monday we placed an empty container outside in our garden. The children agreed we needed to tie it to the fence as our weather diaries had shown it was very windy on Monday. We then checked back during our outdoor learning each day to see how much rain had been gathered.  We discovered that it rained the most at the beginning of the week, and not much towards the end

Marvellous Meringues for Reception

Image
As part of our learning this week we have completed some cooking activities. The children we keen to make some clouds and we have been exploring clouds in many ways. We have mixed colours to create greys, we have completed and 'observing over time' experiment to see how much rain has fallen this week and we have made clouds using meringue.  The children worked in groups to look at the recipe, help to measure out carefully and discussed what happened to the ingredients as they were mixed together. We also discussed how the meringues were cooked and thought about how the ingredients looked different to before they went in the oven!  'It's gone whiter - I can see bubbles.' - Nicole  'I think it will go brown in the oven.' - Benjamin  'It looks like a fluffly cloud.' - Isla  'The egg looks like yellow Jelly.' - Mia  'It looks like whipped cream.' - Qmari  The children enjoyed making their clouds and enjoyed eating them too!

Digital photography in Year 2

Image
As part of our Computing unit 'Creating Media' Year 2 used the iPads to practise taking photographs in portrait and landscape mode. We linked this to Maths by going on a shape hunt around the school, as we have been learning about the properties of 2D and 3D shapes. We worked on our collaboration and sharing skills by sharing the roles and equipment as we completed the task. Henry: 'I know the football is a sphere!' Agnes: 'The water tray has eight sides so it must be an octagon.' Grace: 'I can see a triangle on the gate.' Florence: 'The glue-stick is a cylinder!' Jayden: 'The candle is a cylinder too!' James: 'The paper on the window is rectangular.' Harley: 'The PE cones are cones but they have a square base.'

Year 2's Fantastic Exit Point

Image
To celebrate and consolidate our learning about transport, Year 2 were lucky enough to have a visit from Lookers Ford! We prepared questions such as 'How much horsepower does it have?' and 'What is the car made out of?' In this IPC unit we have also enjoyed investigating air resistance by making different sized paper helicopters and comparing their speed. We made predictions and shared ideas about whether the helicopters would fall faster or slower. It was extra fun to test them outside on a breezy day! Here are some examples of our Art work. We looked at examples of how artists have portrayed 'movement' by using shading, lines and patterns. Then we created our own 'moving' piece of art by using some of these techniques.
