Boys football team get medals at small schools final!

Image
After winning their league to qualify for the Small Schools Final, the St Pius X football team took on Danbury Park in a hard-fought match on a very hot day. The teams were evenly matched in the first half, going into the break level at 1-1, but despite a tremendous effort, St Pius X were eventually beaten 6-2 by a very strong opposition. Goalkeeper Joe made a number of outstanding saves to keep the team in the game, and every player showed fantastic determination, teamwork and resilience throughout. Finishing as runners-up and receiving silver medals is a wonderful achievement, and everyone at St Pius X is incredibly proud of the team's success.

Tennis success!

Congratulations to our St Pius X tennis teams on an excellent series of performances this term! The team were crowned champions at a Tennis Tournament after competing against other schools within our Trust. They then went on to achieve an impressive third-place finish at a larger tournament held at Oaklands Park, competing against schools from across the region. The pupils showed great teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout both competitions, making the whole school proud. Well done to everyone involved on these fantastic achievements!

Reception- Trip to Maldon

Image
On Tuesday, Reception Class took their first school trip to Maldon, where they could link this to their learning of the seaside. The children had to build their own sandcastles and then complete observational drawings of the boats in the water. They all loved playing in the sand and worked hard to complete their drawings, really focusing on the details they could see on the boats.  We also got to see people working on their boats and watched a sail boat travel across the water. The children spotted speed boats and sail boats.  We got to eat our lunch in the park and play on the all the play equipment, which was so much fun that even the adults had to take a turn! The children all behaved incredibly throughout the day and loved being on the coach, even if it did send a few of them to sleep.  A massive thank you to all the parents who were able to support on the trip, it really does make a big difference!

Boys’ football team make it to final, in smashing new kits!

Image
The St Pius X Boys Football Team produced a fantastic performance to defeat St Anne's 6–1 and secure their place in a third Small Schools Final in a row. The boys were in excellent form from the first whistle, playing with confidence, energy and teamwork throughout the match. Spectators were treated to some outstanding goals, with Dom, Jack and Henry all finding the net with superb finishes that helped St Pius X take control of the game. Adding to the occasion, the team proudly wore their brand-new football kits for the first time. The kits were made possible thanks to the hard work and determination of the boys, who raised funds through a series of cake sales organised with the support of Mr Vickers. It was wonderful to see their efforts rewarded as they celebrated such an impressive victory in their new colours. The result means St Pius X have now reached their third consecutive Small Schools Final, a remarkable achievement that reflects the talent, commitment and dedication of ...

Reception- Acts of service

Image
Due to all the rain, the weeds and grass in our outdoor area were getting uncontrollable! We decided to get our scissors out and trim all the weeds and grass.  The children all worked together cutting and pulling the weeds out. We added them to our mud kitchen boxes for us to use throughout the day in our cooking.  Not only has this helped to keep our outdoor area tidy, but the children were building their fine motor skills when using the scissors, and building their bigger muscles when pulling the weeds out.  Great work Reception! 'This one is ginormous'- Logan  'Watch me pull this out the floor'- Johaan 'These ones are sticky'- Elaina  'We need to keep the area tidy'- Gideon  'We can't pull out the flowers, we need to let them grow'- Ethan

Reception- Culture Day

Image
Miss Lowry along with the Mini Vinnies organised an amazing cultural day for the school. We learnt about the different traditions, clothes, food and dance of countries all around the world. We were very lucky to be able to hear from parents in our class about their home countries and traditions.  The children then learnt different dances from each country and got to practise around the hall, having so much fun!  Finally, the children were invited to explore different clothes and musical instruments from the countries. They loved dressing up and getting the opportunity to explore the different cultures.  Thank you to Miss Lowry, Mini Vinnies and the parents involved who made the workshop a great success.

Girl's football team battle as one!

Our Year 4-6 girls football team put in a fantastic performance this week against a very strong Great Leighs side. Although the final score ended 6-1, the scoreline did not reflect the effort, determination and teamwork shown by the girls throughout the match. From the very first whistle, the team defended resiliently and never stopped working hard for one another. Great Leighs proved to be an excellent team, moving the ball well and taking their chances, but our players continued to battle right until the end with great attitude and commitment. There were some brilliant moments of defending, strong tackles and excellent teamwork on display, with the girls encouraging each other throughout the game. Their resilience and positive spirit were outstanding and they should all be incredibly proud of themselves. A special well done goes to Fran, who scored our goal with a fantastic finish to reward the team’s hard work and determination. Matches like this help teams grow stronger, a...

We are incredibly proud to celebrate the fantastic achievement of four of our Year 4 pupils, who recently competed in a Mini Wimbledon tennis tournament against 13 local schools. Finishing second out of 13 schools is a remarkable accomplishment in itself but the excitement doesn’t stop there! By achieving this result, the team has now qualified for the finals, where they will have the opportunity to compete at an even higher level. Congratulations Florence, Henry, Lexi and Joshua!

Children practised moving in different ways — jogging, hopping, skipping, and side-stepping — focusing on quick reactions and smooth transitions. 🌉 Balancing on Beam Bridges Next, we tested our balance and concentration on beam bridges. Children carefully walked across, arms stretched out for stability, learning how to control their movements and keep steady from start to finish. 🌀 Running Through Slalom Poles Our slalom challenge encouraged children to weave in and out of poles, practising agility and spatial awareness . They learned to change direction quickly while keeping their eyes forward and maintaining rhythm. 🪢 Balancing on a Rop...

Padel team enjoy special taster day of sport!

Image
Pupils from St Pius X School enjoyed an exciting and action-packed day of padel at Beaulieu Padel Club, showing great enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout. The team played brilliantly across their matches, securing two impressive wins in their league games. Even in their two losses, they showed incredible determination—missing out by just two points each time, which is a testament to how closely contested the matches were. It was a special day filled with teamwork, effort, and smiles all around. The children represented their school superbly and should be very proud of their performances. Well done to everyone involved! That was so much fun, I'm going to go back and play again in the holidays! Alfie

Reception- PE

Image
This half term, we are developing our ball skills during PE. We started today by learning how to dribble a football.  Everyone had a football and moved around the space using small, gentle touches to keep the ball close to their feet. The children pretended they are witches and wizards with “magic feet,” using their powers to control the ball carefully as they travel. We also practised receiving the ball using our feet instead of our hands.  'I can balance the ball on the cone to help me'- Ethan 'Get ready it's coming'- Henry

Year 4 - SuperStars

Image

The scooter race was very popular, but so was the throwing and cup stacking. The class worked realy hard and even when tasks were tricky non of the gave up. We all had a brilliant time and enjoyed the chance to go up against other schools.  We did aaxingly well. Alexis came third out of all the girls in the competetion and St Pius took first place out of all the schools.  Well done, Year 4!

Year 1 Gymnastics – Balances, Jumps and Brilliant Teamwork

Image
Year 1 Gymnastics – Balances, Jumps and Brilliant Teamwork This week in gymnastics, Year 1 have been busy developing their balance, control and confidence as we explored a range of different balances and jumps. The children were fantastic at trying new shapes with their bodies, practising 2‑point, 3‑point and 4‑point balances , as well as some trickier positions such as dish , Y‑shape and straight balances . It was wonderful to see them concentrating so carefully and holding each position with growing stability. We also focused on a variety of jumps, including straight jumps , tuck jumps , half‑turn jumps and star jumps . The children enjoyed putting power and height into their movements while remembering to land safely with bent knees and good control. A highlight of the lesson was using the apparatus. The class travelled confidently along the benches before jumping safely from the boxes , showing great courage and coordination. Alongside this, the children have been learning ...

Year 5's Gymnastics

Image
Our Year 5 gymnasts took to the mats for an action-packed lesson focused on precision, control, and creativity.  The lesson began with a focus on fundamental floor work. The children worked hard to refine three distinct types of rolls, each requiring a different level of core strength and spatial awareness: The Pencil Roll: Focusing on a tight, streamlined body shape. The Tuck Roll: Mastering the art of staying "small" and protecting the spine. The Teddy Bear Roll: A tricky lateral roll that challenged their coordination and rhythm! Once the rolling was under control, we moved on to stability. The students practiced their 3-point balances , learning that tension through their fingertips and toes is the secret to staying perfectly still. We also introduced the raised beams. Navigating a moving balance across the beam requires immense focus, and it was wonderful to see the children supporting one another and showing great bravery as they crossed. The class explored three k...

Reception- P.E

Image
This week in P.E , Reception class were finding out different ways of stretching their bodies to make different shapes, which also linked to our maths learning this week. During maths we have been learning about triangles and circles. The children had to make sure they had enough sides to make their shapes and what they could do if there was too many of them.  "There's four of us so we can be a square"- Grace  "Our legs make the points like a triangle"- Quinn "We need to have straight arms"- Immanuel
