Book week 2023

This week we have enjoyed our annual Book Week! We have followed the theme of Diversity. Each class' English lessons have been based around a book which celebrates diversity.

We have participated in a range of different activities throughout the week.

Class swap

All the teachers swapped classrooms this week for a one off, fun, active and engaging English lesson. Children participated in a range of activities lessons including hot-seating, drama, immersive writing and debates. This was a fantastic opportunity for the classes to take their learning outside of the classroom and it was great to see all the learning spaces in the school being used!

Masked Reader

The children LOVED the masked reader competition where the children had to guess which member of staff was behind a mask and reading a poem. The children loved trying to guess which adult it was behind the mask and listening to the poems. Can you guess who's behind the mask in these pictures?

The winner was: MORE THAN A MONSTER

Their winning poem is here:

Stop and Read
On Wednesday, the whole school - including non-teaching staff - took some time to read for pleasure. Children were allowed to bring in anything they enjoy reading from comics to non-fiction books and magazines to read during this time. It was wonderful to see the whole school community reading together.

Parent readers
We enjoyed welcoming in parents to read to classes this week. It is great for the children to hear different adults reading aloud and to hear a range of books and stories.

Dress up day
We love to see the amazing costumes the children create for World Book day. There were some amazing outfits this year from a range of stories! It was great to hear conversations around the school guessing the characters and talking about the books they were from. Well done everyone for your efforts.

The sponsored read
It is wonderful to hear that so many children are participating in the sponsored read this year. Please check back on the blog in a few weeks to hear about the winners and how much money was raised!
