Show Racism the Red Card - Years 5 & 6

This half term, years 5 and 6 were provided with a brilliant opportunity to learn more about discrimination and what they could do to respectfully and safely challenge any discriminatory behaviour they see. In line with our school values of integrity, fairness, peace and kindness, the children were able to reflect on how to be better citizens in our local and global community.

Show Racism the Red Card is the UK's leading anti-racism charity and was established to educate as many people as possible on the detrimental impacts racism can have and what we can all do to ensure that we live in an inclusive, fair society.

Years 5 & 6 visited Chelmsford City Football Club and were firstly given a tour of the grounds by Chelmsford City's Louis Dunne. Then, they worked with representative from the charity to become more educated on racism and how to be an upstander in situations. Then, the children were able to hear from footballers, such as Simeon Jackson, about their experiences of racism in football and growing up.

The children asked some highly insightful questions - well done to Zaviera in year 5 who was voted as having a top question for the panel!

It was a brilliant experience for the children and some important lessons were learned. Well done years 5 & 6!
