National Fieldwork week in EYFS

In Reception we have marked National Fieldwork week by creating our own maps of our outdoor area. The children worked hard exploring a range of maps.
We looked at a world map, road maps, zoo maps, train maps and treasure maps. The children were pleased to be able to recall the 7 continents which we learned during our Wonderful World topic.

We looked in detail at the keys and symbols on maps and how they are used to help people identify landmarks.

They then made their own maps of our playground, thinking carefully about where things are in relation to one another, what a good symbol for them would be and what size they are.
Can you tell which features of our playground the children have chosen?
