Perfect positional language in EYFS

We have been learning about using positional language in Maths. We learnt that ‘position’ means ‘where something is’. We looked at a few words to describe this such as:

Next to

On top of

In between

Underneath

Behind

In front of

Beside

Some of these words we knew really well but some of the words were a challenge for us such as ‘between, beside, beneath’

‘Position means ‘where is it.’ - Bow

‘It’s a good game, I like playing games in maths.’ - Reuben

We played a game in pairs choosing an instruction and then moving the objects to show that positional language. This encouraged the children to take turns, read aloud and then show their understanding of the mathematical vocabulary. The children showed their learning power of reciprocity while working together to read the cards and place the objects.

Well done Reception!
