Pupil Ambassadors Present Project

 Hello,

We are the Pupil Ambassadors at our School.

This academic year we joined, along with many other local primary schools, the CTSA Forum whose project this year is ‘Safe and Well.’

First, we had to decide on our own project from 6 topics so we held an assembly explaining to the whole school what the project was all about,  they then voted to select, ‘Keeping Our Planet Safe’ as our project.

That was earlier this year and since then many changes  have happened in the school which has made us more  aware that we need to do more to keep our planet safe as we are indeed ‘caretakers of our planet.’

We would like to share with you our achievements so far and the changes we have made.

  • ·        We now have paper recycling sacks in each class for 2-sided paper only and 1-sided paper is reused as scrap paper.
  • ·        All the taps in the whole school have been changed to automatic shut off taps
  • ·        Lights are being turned off in class, especially when empty, and blinds opened to save more electricity.
  • ·        A whole school survey was completed by children on the ipads and their opinions were asked on saving water, electricity, paper and cardboard.
  • ·        There will be timer switches/sensors in the toilets for the lights.

·        The Pupil Ambassadors met with Vicky Ford our local MP and showed her our achievements so far,  she was very impressed with the changes and ideas we had,  we asked her if she had any contacts in the council that might help us with some ideas and she signposted us to a couple of websites including 'Love Chelmsford.'

·        This is what she said about her visit to us, ‘ I really enjoyed joining children from St Pius School . Thank you especially to Eliza and Vanishka who have been leading projects to reduce waste, save water and electricity and recycle more both at St Pius and with other schools’.

·        We had a poster competition in the school inviting children to share ‘top tips’ for reducing, reusing and recycling and we had some amazing entries.

There were 2 winners, Melvin from Year 1 and Hannah from Year 4 who are now our Eco Monitors and part of our School Council meetings.  Their tops tips were;

Use public transport more, reusable bags, print on both sides of paper, buy local, use the sun and open the windows, turn off lights, switch to fluorscent, washing with cold water, turn off water when brushing your teeth, unplug all devices at night, car pool, use a bike, reduce air travel, walk and use reusable drink bottles. All brilliant tips.

  r

UThey will continue our hard work in this role.

We still have one or two other ideas we are still waiting to implement regarding reducing how much paper we use as a school and litter picking.

We have had regular zoom meetings with the CTSA Forum and the other schools and we are excited about us all meeting at Pontlands Park Hotel in July where we will be presenting our project.

Thank you for reading our blog
