A carousel of counting in Year 1

This week, Year 1 have been counting backwards within 10! We did lots of choral counting, and used a variety of resources to help us do this to build our confidence. We used number lines, numicon, numbers in words, our fingers, multi link and ten frames.

We discussed how the numbers become smaller when we count backwards and that we were counting back by 1 each time. 

We had a carousel of different activities to embed our learning!


We also spoke about how counting backwards would help us in the wider world and actually found lots of examples! 

Qmari - "Rocket ships count down from 10 before they BLAST OFF!"

Eva - "We count down from 10 before running races"

Nancy - "You could count down from 10 when you play Hide and Seek"

World Book Day 2024

 We were so impressed with the costumes this year!  The children (and staff) made a brilliant effort and this also encourage lots of 'Book talk' throughout the day with children role playing as their character and discussing the stories they were from.  Well done all!
