Algorithm makers in Year 5

This term we will be completing a unit of work on computer coding. Over the next few weeks the children will learn to programme a micro:bit using a coding programme called Microsoft MakeCode. 




This week we learned what an algorithm is and how to programme the micro:bit to become a name badge with our name moving across the screen on a loop. The children created a script in their workspace in the programme and placed the code together.

The children will be learning to develop their code as the weeks progress.

Bawdsey Day 2

Today has been another action-packed day here at Bawdsey, with the children up bright and early, full of energy and excitement for what lay ahead. After a hearty hot breakfast to fuel the morning, the first activities kicked off: canoeing and Survivor (a fantastic session of den building and outdoor skills). The children embraced the challenge, showing great teamwork and creativity as they constructed their shelters and took to the water with enthusiasm. Following a tasty lunch, the afternoon brought even more thrills with the giant swing — a definite favourite! There were plenty of cheers (and a few nervous giggles) as each child took their turn. We rounded off the day’s activities with a problem-solving session, where teamwork, communication, and thinking outside the box were the keys to success.
