Being Faithful

It’s hard to believe we’re already a few weeks into the new school year—and what a wonderful start it’s been.  Our first few weeks together have already shown how full of promise, kindness and quiet determination our school community is.

In our Tuesday assembly, we explored the theme of faithfulness—not just in the big moments, but in the small, everyday choices we make. We looked at the Gospel of Luke, where Jesus says, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much. It’s a powerful reminder that the little things we do—acts of kindness, responsibility, and care—matter deeply.

We reflected together on what this could look like in school life: being kind in the playground, helping at home, holding doors for others, or simply being a good friend. The children shared some thoughtful and sincere reflections, and it was clear they understood just how much impact those ‘little’ things can have.

I shared a small example from my own week—helping my neighbour by looking after their lovely Sprocker, Bertie, while they were tied up at the hospital. It was a simple gesture, but it reminded everyone how important it is to show up for each other, especially when people are in need. Sometimes, being faithful means just being there.

One moment that truly captured the spirit of our school was when Bow Hart shared her story with us. Bow recently had all of her beautiful long hair cut off to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust—and has already raised around £800. Her bravery, compassion, and willingness to serve others left the whole school in awe, and it was a joy to see the spontaneous and heartfelt round of applause that followed. Bow is a shining example of our school value of service, and we are so proud of her.

It feels especially fitting that we are heading into Service Week, which begins on 29th September. Already, we’ve seen such generosity from our families in the lead-up to this, with so many of you contributing to our Harvest collection. We are gathering food items to make parcels for donation to Chelmsford Food Bank, and your kindness will make a real difference to families in our local community. Thank you for all the tins, packets, and thoughtful donations you’ve sent in—every item counts.

As we continue through this term, I hope we can all hold on to that message: that faithfulness isn’t about perfection or grand gestures—it’s about showing up, doing our best, and being kind and consistent in the small things.

Here’s to a year of small acts with big impact.

Warm wishes
