Beginning Our Year 1 Journey ☀️

Welcome back to Year 1! It has been wonderful to see everyone’s smiley faces each morning and to watch the children settle into their new classroom so brilliantly.

This week we have been busy exploring all the exciting toys and provision areas and learning our new routines. We have also been talking about our big feelings and how we can manage them in positive ways.

'I was a bit worried coming back to school but I am having a great day. I am feeling happy!' - Theodor

'I am feeling calm because I like to be at school' - Joelle

Together we used the Zones of Regulation to think about different feelings we might have during the day and worked as a team to come up with some great ideas for how to feel calm and ready to learn.

'When I feel happy, I like to play calmly with my family' - Elysia

'If we feeling like the red monster we could do some deep breaths or five finger breathing.' - Nyle

We also learnt about how our brains help us to learn new things and explored the idea of whole-body listening - using our eyes, ears, mouth, hands and bodies to focus on our learning. The children even printed their own cauliflower brains to remind them just how clever their brains are!

'My brain helps me to listen and play.' - Noah

Throughout the week, we celebrated what makes each of us unique and special. We talked about how we are all different and that those differences make our class such a wonderful place to be. To celebrate this, we decorated our own colourful Elmers and practised writing about what makes each of us special and one of a kind.

'I am one of a kind because my mummy and daddy love me' - Coby

'I am one of a kind because I am kind to my friends' - Urane

Well done Year 1! Have a lovely weekend everyone
