 Thursday 18th June 2026 Cakes, Coffee and Celebrating!! It is fast becoming a tradition!  Our 3rd Year of The Mini Vinnies holding a Cream Tea at  St Pius X Primary School and invititing some of our older members of our local community.  We had many of our regulars along with some new visitors.   It was a fab afternoon as always.  Plenty of cakes and coffe and lots of chats.  Year 6 then entertained everyone with a preview of all their Production Songs from their Leaver's Production, The Wizard Of Oz. They were amazing!  All in all it was another fantastic afternoon with our friends from the Community we thank you so much for coming and sharing this wonderful event and we look forward to seeing everyone again soon. 💻 With the recent news about the social media ban for under 16s, Year 2 were keen to discuss this and share their opinions! Our PSHE lesson was focused on how and why we use the internet so this real-life news linked perfectly! We watched BBC Newsround video listening to older children discussing their thoughts on the ban. Then we talked to our partners about what 'rules' we had at home when using devices. These included: time limits - must turn off devices at 6pm time limits - can only play online games at the weekend limited contacts - can only message family members educational - can play educational games We also talked about age limits as some children said they were allowed to use certain apps such as Facebook and Snapchat. The social-media ban is aimed at keeping children safe. As part of our PSHE curriculum, we have been thinking about the qualities of a good friend , and when certain actions are appropriate or inappropriate. This includes what we say, how we say it, and how we behave. Year 2 had some great ideas, some of which linked to our learning powers of showing RESPECT and RESILIENCE as well as considering strategies we can use to help us make good decisions.  Matthew 7v 12 reminds us to treat others as we would like to be treated ourselves. This is Jesus's Golden Rule! To conclude and celebrate, we made 'friendship jars,' adding ingredients that would make a good friend, before singing along to our friendship songs - Count on Me and You've Got a Friend in Me (which we have been learning to play on the glockenspiels too!)

 Today, Year 6 took part in the BHF Revive School Training Programme, where they learnt valuable life-saving skills and the importance of acting quickly in an emergency. Throughout the session, the children explored the difference between a cardiac arrest and a heart attack, and learnt how to respond safely if they discover an unconscious person who is not breathing. They also practised how to make an emergency call, work together as a team, perform CPR safely, and use a defibrillator confidently. The programme gave pupils the opportunity to develop important practical skills that could one day help save a life.  It's been so much fun exploring the forest school area as part of our learning!  The children are loving all of the activities provided by our forest school leaders: Karen and Caroline.  There has been lots of bug hunting, mud kitchen cooking and tree climbing.  A Wonderful Time at The Wisdom Club! What a wonderful visit The Mini Vinnies had this morning at The Wisdom Club, this is a regular event now and everyone has the most enjoyable time.  The younger members of the community meeting with the older members of the community.  There was a lot of singing with the children singing some of their favourite songs, and many members of The Wisdom Club joined in with the Abba songs!! The children shared their work with their friends at the club, they were particularly excited to show their IPC work of WW2.  Cakes and drinks were served which always goes down well. Olive and Agnes the Year 4 Mini Vinnies invited the members of The Wisdom Club to a special performance of their Easter Production next week, so we are looking forward to seeing some there.  After a busy week this week, we ended our Friday with a session about mindfulness. We read the story 'Worrysaurus' and discussed some of our worries and what we can do to reduce them. We thought about how breathing and exercise can help us too.  We followed a dinosaur themed Cosmic Kids yoga to calm our bodies and then a guided meditation to calm our minds.  Afterwards, we spoke about how these activities made us feel:  'Tired'-Ethan 'A bit happy'- Amelia 'Calm'- Elaina and Valentina  'I can see a rainbow when I closed my eyes'- Elijah 'I can feel a rainbow in my tummy'- Ethan

As we reach the end of this half term, we have also been marking Children’s Mental Health Week 2026 (9–15 February), led nationally by Place2Be . This year’s theme, “This is My Place,” has focused on belonging — feeling safe, valued and accepted within our families, friendships, schools and communities. Belonging is fundamental to positive mental health. When children feel secure and understood, they are more confident learners, more resilient when faced with challenges and better able to build healthy relationships. Throughout the week, pupils have taken part in thoughtful activities and discussions exploring what makes them feel that they belong and how they can help others feel included. What are the Mini Vinnies involved with at the moment? The Mini Vinnies are very busy. We have weekly meetings and right now we are beginning St. Vincent De Paul's Lenten Campaign. This year’s  SVP Heart to Heart Lent campaign   focuses on   loneliness , a hidden issue that affects people of all ages, even in busy schools and communities. The message is simple and powerful:   reach out and have a conversation . Inspired by  St Pier Giorgio Frassati , an SVP member who believed in friendship and lifting others  verso l’alto  (“to the heights”), the campaign shows how caring for others helps us grow too. The Heart to Heart campaign will be a 5 week Lenten journey.  Each week we will explore stories of Jesus listening to and caring for those who felt lonely or forgotten.  We will be doing activities that build towards a final challenge where we have a 'heart to heart' conversation with someone in our community.  We have started with Week 1 ...

Safer Internet Day: Smart Tech, Safe Choices Today is Safer Internet Day and the theme is ‘Smart Tech, Safe Choices - Exploring the safe and responsible use of AI.’  As technology becomes an everyday part of children’s lives, it is important that we help them use it safely, responsibly and with confidence. Many primary-age children already interact with technology that uses artificial intelligence (AI), such as voice assistants, games, learning apps and online content recommendations. These tools can support learning, creativity and curiosity when used appropriately and with adult guidance. However, while AI can be helpful and engaging, it also presents risks that young children may not recognise. AI tools can sometimes provide inaccurate information, expose children to unsuitable content, or encourage them to trust what they see and hear too easily. Today, we marked  Remembrance Day  as our  Head Girl and Head Boy represented St Pius X Catholic Primary School at the War Memorial on Church Green in Broomfield . They joined members of the community to honour and remember those who have sacrificed their lives for peace and freedom by laying down a poppy wreath. It was a poignant service , providing a time for reflection, remembrance, and prayer . Both pupils represented our school beautifully, truly embodying our school values of peace, integrity and service.                    Ella shared, “I felt proud to be a representative of St Pius X and our school values.” Joe reflected, “It was special to dedicate our time to remember those who have fallen.” Their words capture the reverence and gratitude felt during the ceremony - a reminder of the importance of remembering and praying for peace in our world.  Mini Vinnies visit The Wisdom Club This morning The Mini Vinnies visited our friends at The Wisdom Club.  As always with our visits to The Wisdom Club it was a lot of fun. The Mini Vinnies entertained the members of the club with some of their favourite songs including, Mamma Mia, Sometimes Lord, Oceans and Celebrate which got everyone clapping. The children then spent time with the members showing them some of their school work so far this academic year, which is something our friends always enjoy.  The children shared their art work and their English work.   The visit finished with a drink of juice and some cakes and biscuits which is always a winner with the children!!! 

 All through October, Year 4 have been doing a range of activities to celebrate Black History Month. We've been listening to a range of music from the last 300 years from various black artists during our coming in times. The top shelf of our library corner has all had books all relating to black history and  black authors.  We've also been learning about a range of different figures from history and modern influential people today during our reading comprehensions. We've read about Ignatis Sancho, Queen Nzinga, Malorie Blackman, Mo Farah and Katherine Johnson. Each student choose one of these people to research so that they coud write a biography on their choosen person this week.  These aren't the only people we've looked at. We've particularly focused on the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. We created art works insired by his very unique and emotive artworks. We listened to music to colour our backgrounds as Basquiat was very inspired by the music he listened to. ...

Earlier this month, Year 2 started to learn about an important girl called Ruby Bridges. We listened to a story about how she was brave and courageous, attending a mixed school when usually black children were segregated. 'I am Ruby Bridges' video It made us think about how we welcome new people and that we celebrate everyone's differences. 'Ruby Bridges was really brave.' 'She stood up for what was right and tried to change the law.' 'It doesn't matter what colour your skin is. Everyone is the same inside.' We celebrated by making posters and medals for Ruby!

 Today is World Mental Health Day, so in Reception Class, we thought about things we can do that make us happy and calm. We thought about things we can do with our families but also on our own to support us when other people are busy. We read the Colour Monster again and discussed the feelings throughout the book and completed an activity where we had to think about our own characteristics. We linked this learning to our R.E last week, when we thought about what makes us special to God.  During continuous provision, the children used the colour monster teddies to tell the story.  "I am love"- Quinn "I am anger"- Gideon  They also used different colour monster props to match the feelings into their jars. 'Serving,' in Service Week -  Yesterday, as part of Service Week, The Mini Vinnies were delighted to hold a Cream Tea event in the afternoon welcoming grandparents of the pupils and members of The Wisdom Club, a local Social Group in the Community.  The Mini Vinnies made sure our guests were very well looked  after, they served delicious scones, made by our talented Catering Manager, Mrs Hughes, topped with  cream and jam!  Delicious said all!!  We then entertained everyone with some fabulous singing and  Year 3 also popped in and sang a song they had learned in their music lesson with Miss Lowrey, and  showed us some freestyle dancing to!!  Everyone had an amazing afternoon, and our guests left feeling really happy and said how fantastic  the afternoon was!  

  The Mini Vinnies are back! It's the new academic year and we are excited to meet again each week with our ideas and actions. We welcomed 2 new members to the Mini Vinnie group, Shakira and Emma from Year 6.  They took the Mini Vinnie promise and were given their badges.  They are very excited to join the group.  Raveena, the President, and Ivy, the Vice President introduced Vincent the Mini Vinnie Bear to KS1.  They told the children that the adults working with them will be looking out for random 'acts of kindness.'  If chosen Vincent Bear would be able to sit on their desk for the day and have a few cuddles. Vincent Bear will be in Year 2 for the Autumn Term and then will be going to Year 1 for the Spring Term and finish the year in the Summer Term in Reception Year.  We will be back with some more updates when we have them! Welcome back to Year 1! It has been wonderful to see everyone’s smiley faces each morning and to watch the children settle into their new classroom so brilliantly. This week we have been busy exploring all the exciting toys and provision areas and learning our new routines. We have also been talking about our big feelings and how we can manage them in positive ways.  'I was a bit worried coming back to school but I am having a great day. Today, Year 4 took part in a special Day of Welcome to learn more about the lives of refugees and how we can show kindness and support to those who may be starting a new life in a different country. We began the day by watching a powerful webinar that helped us understand what it might be like to be a refugee in a new school. It made us think about how challenging and scary that experience could be, especially if you don’t speak the language or know anyone. After that, we read part of "The Boy at the Back of the Class" by Onjali Q. Raúf and learned about a boy named Ahmet , who is a refugee. We created story maps to show Ahmet’s journey and talked about how he might have been feeling at different points in the story – scared, lonely, hopeful, and sometimes happy when he made new friends. On Monday, The Mini Vinnies visited our friends at The Wisdom Club, a local community club.  Although St Pius X Children have visited The Wisdom Club on many occasions before this was the first visit from The Mini Vinnies.   The Mini Vinnies, Raveena, Ivy, Aurora, Ryan, Hannah and Agnes introduced themselves to the members of the club one by one, telling them about their different job roles in the Mini Vinnies and also what the group are about. They explained that they are the younger members of the St Vincent De Paul Society and that they were looking to carrying out Jesus' mission of kindness, care and understanding.
