Place Value superstars in Year 5

To start our maths learning this term we are focusing on Place Value. The children all worked hard in pairs to create large numbers using the physical resources we had. They made numbers using deins and place value counters.

They then tested their partner's knowledge of place value by asking questions such as 'How many thousands are in your number? or Can you make a number 100 more than this one?'

The children showed excellent reciprocity skills when working together and supporting each other in this practical maths lesson.

'This lesson was fun because we could use the counters. I had 12 100 counters and I needed to replace 10 of them with a 1000 counter.' - Tyler

'We learned how to make big numbers using the resources.' - Yana
