Year 5 Sewing superstars

 Before the Easter break, year 5 embarked on a DT project in which they had to learn to sew! 

The children spent time learning some essential skills such as threading the needle, a running stitch and a back stitch. They mastered these difficult steps before designing their own sewing square to complete.

 

'It was really funa nd I enjoyed using the thread to create a running stitch.' - Emanuela 

'We learned a cross stitch and a back stitch - we learned to loop it right to left, not under and over.' - Isabella 

They were able to use a variety of colours to create their designs and were able to choose the stitch that would match their creations the best! 

We were very proud of their resilience and determination while learning this new skill! Well done year 5!

Today has been another action-packed day here at Bawdsey, with the children up bright and early, full of energy and excitement for what lay ahead. After a hearty hot breakfast to fuel the morning, the first activities kicked off: canoeing and Survivor (a fantastic session of den building and outdoor skills). The children embraced the challenge, showing great teamwork and creativity as they constructed their shelters and took to the water with enthusiasm. Following a tasty lunch, the afternoon brought even more thrills with the giant swing — a definite favourite! There were plenty of cheers (and a few nervous giggles) as each child took their turn. We rounded off the day’s activities with a problem-solving session, where teamwork, communication, and thinking outside the box were the keys to success.
