A Flutter of Faith: Our Child-Led Class Worship
Our classroom was filled with wonder this week as the children completely planned and led a beautiful class worship to celebrate the release of our butterflies. 🦋
For the past few weeks, the children have been closely watching caterpillars transform into beautiful Monarch butterflies. To mark the special moment of setting them free, they took complete ownership of our collective worship, choosing the scriptures, songs, and reflections themselves.
Finding Meaning in Scripture
The children chose to focus on Genesis 1:24-25, the scripture that tells the story of God creating the living creatures of the earth.
During the worship, our student readers proudly shared how God made everything and every beast of the earth according to its kind, and how God saw that it was good. They spoke beautifully about how our tiny caterpillars are a perfect part of that big, wonderful creation.
Prayers:
'Thank you God for these beautiful butterflies - they are so perfect and it is amazing how you have made them,' - Jacob
'Your creation is wonderful, I hope the butterflies have a good life.' - Jocelin
Singing with Joy
No butterfly celebration would be complete without some music! The children led everyone in singing a enthusiastic rendition of 'If I Were a Butterfly'.
There were smiles all around as they thanked God for making them who they are, singing loudly and doing all the actions—especially the wing-flapping!
The Big Release
The most magical moment came when we took our butterfly habitat outside to the school garden. Together, we watched as the butterflies gently warmed their wings and fluttered out into the wide world for the very first time.
It was a perfect reminder of growth, new beginnings, and the amazing world we have been trusted to look after.
Thank you to all the children for planning such a thoughtful, joyful, and reverent service. You did an amazing job!
