Year 2 Art Gallery!

Image
For our ' Exit Point' celebration for our IPC topic 'Buildings' Year 2 showcased their amazing art work at their very own gallery! Mrs Derbyshire popped in and said' What a fantastic way to celebrate your work!' Parents were invited to peruse the fantastic Starry Night exhibition and browse through their children's sketchbooks. Students were keen to show off their hard work and talk about their art with their families. We are very grateful for your time and donations which will be used to purchase books and games for the class. Well done Year 2!

Day 2 PGL

Another fantastic day at PGL! Despite the weather not playing along, we've embraced the change in schedule with enthusiasm. The children have risen to the occasion, tackling new challenges and making the most of every moment.  All the children have slept well and are enjoying the food on offer! St Pius X girls’ football team debut new kit!

St Pius X girls, debut new football kit Today saw our girls’ football team play their last game of the season,  wearing their new football kits! These were purchased with the money raised from the cake sale back in February and some kind donations from the school Governors. Using designs they had created, a kit was produced that had all the elements they wanted.  They look smart and professional and the girls definitely felt great wearing them.  Thank you to everyone who purchased a cake/cakes.

Year 1 IPC Exit Point

Image
We marked the end of our 'People of the Past' topic by making books about a significant person we learned about this term. Students included five facts about their famous person as well as some illustrations. When they were done with their books, they read them to their classmates! Students then made an item of their choice that would represent their significant person. Some decided to make hospitals to represent Mary Seacole, some made ships to represent Earnest Shackleton and his journey across the South Pole, and many other creative pieces. Students enjoyed being able to express their knowledge in a creative way! The students were able to choose from a variety of resources ranging from paints, cardboard, wax crayons, and other materials! "I made Earnest Shackleton's ship! This is what he used to sail to Elephant Island!" - Brian "I made a hospital called 'Mary Seacole Hospital'. This is where Mary Seacole learned how to turn plants into medicine....

Forest School in Reception

Image
We are so excited that we have Forest School sessions this term. The children enjoyed taking part this morning and exploring the wildlife area. They were able to look for creatures, play in the mud kitchen and develop their gross motor skills through climbing trees, the tree swing and hammock.  Forest school allows the children to access many areas of our Early Years Curriculum. They are developing their communication skills, observational skills, gross motor skills, social skills all while learning about our wonderful world.  "I found some bugs - some ants and slugs." - Aibel  "Uriah found a slug. The best bit is sitting in the hammock." - Mia  These sessions are a great opportunity for the children to put our learning powers into action. Showing reciprocity when working together to build dens, developing resourcefulness when choosing appropriate items for the task, resilience when they find a task hard and reflectiveness when we discuss what they have learned....

Calm Club

Image
Every Tuesday lunchtime 2 children from each class are invited to Calm Club in the library. There are a selection of quiet, mindful and calm activities for the children to choose from including lego, colouring, reading and puzzles. We know how important is it for children to have a safe environment and somewhere they can relax, especially if they find playtimes difficult. Hannah (Year 4) said 'Time flies when you're having fun!'

Year 2 - Great Fire of London!

Image
What a way to start the half term and our new IPC topic - Time Travellers ! We travelled back in time to the Stuarts era in 1666 to delve into life in London.... We had a chance to make our own ink and use quill pens, make clay pots which would be used to melt pewter in order to make buttons for a shirt, create perfumed bags (London was very smelly!), weave and bake bread!  Some of us were unfortunately caught by illnesses such as the plague and had to be shut away to avoid it spreading further. Some of us caught rats and used fire hooks to bring the buildings down and most of us helped to get water from the well and pass the buckets along the line to put out some of the blazing fire! In the afternoon we explored old London on a giant map before using our archaeology skills to uncover artefacts and discuss where they were from - A baker? A surgeon? A tailor? A weaver? A writer?
