Year 6's Final Week at St Pius X!

Image
It has been such a busy couple of weeks celebrating Year 6 and all their achievements throughout their time at St Pius X. We could not be prouder of how they have grown and developed over the last few years and it has been wonderful to see them reflect on their time here. We started our celebrations with our Year 6 Leavers' Mass, where the children shared some of their most precious memories with our school community. Then, we enjoyed a leavers' lunch together outside - the cake was absolutely incredible! To round off the week, the children wowed us in their performance of Cinderella Rockerfella. The audience were captivated throughout the entire show and the children should be so proud of how amazing they were! Please click here to see some of the videos that were taken during the production.  We are so sad to say goodbye, Year 6. You will definitely be missed and we wish you the best of luck in your next chapter!

St Pius Art at John Lewis

Image
If you get a chance, please visit the 'Place to Eat' restaurant at John Lewis in Bond Street, Chelmsford over the summer holidays. A selection of art work from all year groups from St Pius is being displayed there until the 16th September. Many congratulations to all those whose art work has been displayed, and extra congratulations to Darcie (Year 6) who was awarded a special prize in our Celebration Assembly for the 'winning' piece of art inspired by Van Gogh!

Admiring God's Wonderful world in EYFS

Image
We have been thinking about God's wonderful world in our RE lessons this term. The children have heard the creation story from Genesis and thought about how God was pleased with his creation. We have thought deeply about the Bible verse 'God said "It was good."' We've shown our learning power of Reflectiveness as we thought about this meaning that God is proud of us.  The children have written down their favourite thing about God's world and we have thought together as a class about how we can care for the world. Some of our ideas are:  " We could water our plants and we can look after the flowers." Amelia  " Don't throw rubbish on the floor - put it in the bin." Jessie " Keep things tidy." Brian  " Look after God's creatures." Purity  The children all contributed to come collaborative artwork drawing things from the creation story which God has made. All joined together the artwork shows God's whole crea...

Fantastic First aiders in Reception

Image
We have been very lucky to have a visit from a Paramedic who gave each class a First Aid workshop.  Reception really enjoyed their workshop and listened extremely well. The skills they have learned include how to call 999 in an emergency, the recovery position and how to put on a bandage. These link to our school value of service and encourage our pupils to think of others and how they can help others.  The children had the opportunities to practise putting on bandages, moving friends into recovery positions and singing along to 'Baby shark' as they had a go at compressions from CPR.  They were very sensible during the session and all came away talking about what they had learned.  Well done Reception!

Exhibition Afternoon 10.07.23

Image
Parents and families were invited to our annual Exhibition Afternoon to look around the school, see their children's work and celebrate the end of the year. It's amazing to look back and see the progress the children have made and to remember all the fantastic learning opportunities and experiences. Children and parents were able to visit their new classrooms and teachers and look around the Gallery of Work in the hall. It was great to see so many people, especially some of our new starters who will be joining us in September.  Thank you to all those who were able to visit!

Magical Myths in Year 4

Image
Year 4 have been very busy and creative - they have read a variety of mythical stories and improved their knowledge of how mythical stories are created, including the all-important mythical creatures! Using this knowledge, they have planned, drafted and published their own mythical stories, and created mythical creatures using a variety of materials.

Lilly & The Little Princess Trust

Image
We all want to say how proud we are of Lilly (Year 4) - she has recently had her long hair cut and donated to the Little Princess Trust. The Little Princess Trust make wigs for children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment. We think you'll agree that Lilly has been very generous and demonstrated our school values of kindness and service!

Year 6 Girls are Champions!

Image
A huge congratulations to our KS2 girls' football team who have won the small schools football league; winning 7-0 against Danbury Park. A massive achievement for those girls: they played outstanding football, whilst showing great respect to the opposition following the St Pius X school values, well done champions!

Outstanding Hotel Projects in Year 6!

Image
In year 6, the children have been developing their design and technology skills by planning and creating their own hotel to suit a particular brief. They initially thought carefully about their target market, the theme of their hotel and then the budget they would need for their idea to come to life.  They are now creating their prototypes of specific rooms for their hotels. They are being very resourceful by recycling materials that would have been otherwise thrown away. It's great to see them imagining furniture from the scraps of rubbish they have! Once they are completed, they will pitch their idea to the whole class and see if they have successfully won a bid for investment into their project. It will be like our own Dragon's Den at St Pius X! "It's really fun designing and making the hotels!" Josh "It was great to do market research; I have learnt so many new skills about the design process."  Ira                     ...

Creative Arts Week 2023!

Image
Creative Arts Week has been full of... creativity!  The Creative Arts include: Art, Dance, Drama and Music . The Year 5 and 6 Choir started the week off by performing their winning song to the school - amazing acapella! Year 4 visited the Wisdom Club on Monday and performed songs and hymns to people from our local community. On Tuesday we were lucky to be visited by a local artist - Sara - from 'Ever So Arty.' She provided exciting workshops based around the artist Bridget Riley's Optical Illusions . Years 5 and 6 even had a turn as Art Teachers, helping KS1 children in their workshops, demonstrating reciprocity and patience! Check out the Tate Kids website for more information, activities and games. Poppy (Year 4): The optical illusions were cool and confusing. I now have a headache! Leeya (Year 4): It was really fun making Op Art but the hardest was to draw a 3D star! Sonny (Year 4): I liked how it looked! On Wednesday it was Reception's turn to try some Optical ...

Year 4 Wisdom Club

Image
Last Monday Year 4 visited the Wisdom Club in Langton Avenue. This is a weekly community club providing friendship, support and fun to local residents. Year 4 did a superb job of entertaining the audience, singing songs from the Easter Production as well as some of their favourite hymns. After some juice and cake, they spent some time chatting and showing the members their favourite school work. This was a great opportunity to connect with our local community. Pauline, the project coordinator said afterwards: ' The singing was beautiful! The children should be very proud of themselves. I could hear EVERY word, and I was standing at the back.  We were very touched by their song all about community, as that is the essence of what the sisters have helped build in Melbourne.  It is special to have that sharing of young and ‘older’ in the Melbourne community yesterday.  I do hope they will come again soon.' The Wisdom Club really appreciated having our class come to visi...
