Year 4 Stone Age Museum

Image
To end Year 4's topic on Stone Age to Iron Age, the class created a museum on their IPC. Each group researched and created a display on one of the following: Music, food and drink, art and crafts, clothes, tools, farming or homes. They worked very hard and showed off their displays by inviting the rest of the school to come and look at their hard work. They did an amazing job at explaining everything they had learned.  "I liked being able to share what I learned and created. I learned that they had to scrape meat off the fur before they turned it into clothes." - Ella, Year 4. "I enjoyed the stone age food and drink because it was ancient (which means very old)." - Phoebe, Year 2 "I enjoyed looking at the music. Thanks for showing us your work!" Henry, Year 2

Christmas cheer in Year 1

Image
Year 1 have spent the penultimate day of the Autumn term making Christmas wreaths and Christmas tree decorations. Their behaviour was impeccable as they used the school's 4 R's of respect, reciprocity, resourcefulness and resilience to create their art work. All the children did an excellent job of tidying up after themselves too!  Well done Year 1. We hope you enjoy your decorations at home with your families over the festive period. Well done for all of your hard work this past term and we look forward to seeing you all next year, ready and refreshed for all of your new learning! Happy holiday and God bless you and your families.  From Mrs Owen, Mrs Atkins, Mrs Armstrong and Mrs Cosgrove.

St Pius X Christmas Carol Concert

Image
Governors, parents, relatives, staff and Fr Paul were entertained this morning by our children, who brought the Nativity story to life through their narrations and wonderful singing. Despite the miserable weather outside, the children uplifted all of our spirits and filled the hall with Christmas spirit.  Fr. Paul finished the service with a Christmas blessing for everyone. On behalf of the children and staff at St Pius X Catholic Primary School, we would like to wish you all a peaceful and very merry Christmas. God Bless. Mrs Derbyshire

Performance Poetry in Year 1

Image
The more children can play among the waves, the rhythms, the rhymes and the music inherent in spoken language, the more they are developing memory. Steven Fry – Fry’s English Delights Radio 4  Over the past term, Year 1 have been working hard to learn and recite a range of poems by heart.  Learning poetry helps children to develop an ear for language and Year 1 certainly have proven that they have the ears! They have learnt each poem by heart with actions and have really enjoyed expanding their vocabulary, identifying rhymes and working together as a class to perform. We have learnt almost 10 poems this term but we wanted to share our top 3 poems as decided by the class: Chop Chop Pointy Hat/A little old lady Wise Old Owl

Egyptian art in year 3!

Image
In year 3 we are coming to the end of our work on Temples, Tombs and Treasures. It's been an amazing learning journey. From how to make an Egyptian mummy and the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb to how important the River Nile was to this civilization, we have had so much fun! Recently, we made Egyptian headdresses in a similar style to those worn my the Pharaohs thousands of years ago! 'I've loved learning about Ancient Egypt, I'm sad that it's over' Harrison. 'My headdress is similar to the one that protected King Tut in the afterlife' Nathan

Viking Dragon Art in Year 5

Image
I am   thrilled to share the amazing dragon eye art created by our talented Year 5 students as the exit point for our International Primary Curriculum (IPC) unit, "The Great the Bold and the Brave." 🎨🐲 πŸ‘€ Behold the intricate and mesmerising dragon eyes, intricately moulded from clay! Our students poured their creativity and imagination into crafting these stunning pieces, drawing inspiration from the unit's exploration of legendary heroes and mythical creatures from Norse mythology. Vikings believed Dragon symbolism would bring good fortune for their raids in Britain and would decorate their long ships with dragon heads; our pupils created their own dragon eyes using clay and paint.  The process was not just about art, but also about storytelling and character building. Each student imagined the dragon to whom the eye belonged, weaving tales of daring adventure . πŸ“š✨ Through this hands-on activity, our students delved into the world of mythology, honing their fine mo...

The Nativity by KS1

Image
We have been extremely proud of our KS1 children this week who have put on 3 performances of their Nativity play.  We have been practicing for a while, learning songs, projecting our voices and using props on the stage. We think the children were incredible in all the shows and all their hard work paid off. They used their learning power of reflectiveness as they tried to improve their performance and resilience as they faced some of the challenges during practices.  It was wonderful to see so many parents and family members in the audience cheering your children on - we hope you enjoyed the show!  Well done KS1 - you knocked our socks off!

Phenomenal phonics in Reception

Image
We have been working extremely hard in our phonics lessons to learn our phonemes and graphemes. The children have also been concentrating on their letter formation.  They are working on our learning power of resilience during these lessons as remembering everything we need for writing is a challenge.  We are so proud of how far they have come this term as we are beginning to write words clearly using the sounds we know. At the beginning of the year some of us didn't know any letters so this is a fantastic achievement.  Well done Reception!

The Christmas spirit in Reception!

Image
We have enjoyed a very Christmassy day today in Reception. The children have worn their festive jumpers and also enjoyed their delicious Christmas lunch.  We thanked the chefs in the kitchen for making us our delicious meal. They loved the crackers and the Christmas music too.  We had a great time!

Y2 Super Shapes (Maths)

Image
11.12.23     Counting sides on 2D shapes After sharing what we knew about shapes, we spoke to our talk partners and named as many shapes as we could. This was a great opportunity to use mathematical language. We decided if they were 2D or 3D. We also thought about how many sides a shape has. Then we explored making shapes using lolly-sticks and dienes. “Did you know there is no such thing as an ‘upside-down triangle’?” “Marking the sides is a good way to keep track of what sides you have counted.”

Y2 Nativity Art

Image
Today Year 2 put their artistic skills into practice to create some lovely Christmas cards! Using oil pastels to make an effective, colourful background, they then cut black strips of paper to create the silhouette of the nativity scene. Using this mixed media created a simple yet stunning effect. Here are a few... maybe you even received one!
